Pizza Port: Interview with EJ Molina

What is the name of your / the business and social media handle?

How did the name come about and how long have you been here?

“The company started with brother and sister, Gina and Vince Marsaglia. It started off with craft beers that Vince made and a few simple pizzas. They had regulars and started expanding the business, the Solana Beach location was the 1st location. They opened in 1987 and there are now 5 locations.”

What is your role at the company?

“I have been here for 3 years. I started at the bottom working in the kitchen, then I worked as the stock man for a year before I got promoted to Assistant General Manager of Solana Beach.”

What is your favorite thing about the business?

“The atmosphere. It’s family oriented and the beach city vibe can’t be beat. I grew up here so I love working in a place that I am local to. The regulars are cool and the employees are phenomenal. The beer is good and the food is great!”

What is the best part about being in Solana Beach?

“The coastal vibe … it feels like home.”

How do you feel your business reflects / fits in the community?

“Offering great pizza. We offer local deals to schools and the YMCA. We like to donate as much as we can to give back to the community. People love the food, you can’t get enough pizza.”


Knowing more about BLOC, is there a way for us to collaborate / work together?

“We can definitely refer people to you.”

Do you have anything exciting coming up in the future?

“We just celebrated Pizza Port’s 31st anniversary on March 31st. And we want to start doing more night time hangouts, like a video game night on Tuesdays. Come in and hangout vibe – playing Smash Brothers.”



Did you always see yourself doing something like this?

“In a way. I always knew I wanted to run something and work behind the scenes. In the future I would love to run a business of my own so this is definitely good practice. I want to save up now and work towards those goals in the future.”

What advice would you give your 16 year old self?

“Save money.”

If you could only eat one thing for the rest of your life what would it be?

“Italian food.”
